Damn, but Sokka looks good in long flowing black with a little red hair piece and a shiny space sword. Cough.

This is a gorgeous and fun episode, and seeing Sokka finally take his level in badass is very satisfying. I kind of wish he'd taken a bit longer to get really good enough to beat other swordsmen, because the series has quite enough people who get unbeatable within half an episode because they have some kind of awesome natural talent. (Of course it's amazing that we see them having to learn at all. Still, one of the reasons I love Zuko so much is that he fails a hundred times before he gets anything right, and that rings a lot truer for me than, say, Sokka being able to forge a sword on his first try.)

Speaking of too much, giving Iroh a six-pack wasn't quite that necessary either :D I'm kind of sad that we never got to see Zuko's reaction to makeover!Uncle. There should have been another hot springs scene somewhere.

I am a little troubled by how attracted I am to Piandao. That's pretty much all I got.

Sokka is amazing in this episode. He is in his full glory, going from a silly, happy-go-lucky guy to a fierce and determined warrior (although he still shrieks like a nerd while doing so). While I'm sceptic of all of this only occurring over two days, if anyone can do it with single-minded determined awesomeness, it would be Sokka.

I also find it amusing that, in comparison to Piandao, Sokka is incredibly short.

Plus, the entire episode is eye porn. The animators and scene artists really went all out giving us a detailed look of how gorgeous the Fire Nation really can be.

I liked this Sokka-focussed episode, because it really gives us, as viewers, a look into something unrelated to bending. Swordsmanship is all about physical endurance, mental sharpness, and emotional strength, and that's rarely something anyone is born with.
