The Fire Nation should just have spread more posters of Ozai. If the Earth Kingdom and the Water Tribes had known what their new evil overlord looked like, they might have been at least a little mollified.

In all seriousness, I love Ozai's character design. My first thought was something like "...What? That's it? That's the horrible evil face-burning country-invading dictator?". There's nothing about him that really screams BAD PERSON HERE, not at first glance. He's not some over-the-top evil bishie with a face you could cut steel with and waving hair down to his bum. He looks like a real person. You know, a guy who might happen to be a prince, love and marry this woman called Ursa, and be the father of these two characters we already know at this point. I really wish S3 had had more scenes of Ozai just interacting with people, because I loved every second of the very limited screen time he had. (I'd pay real money to see how Ozai and Iroh used to interact before Iroh got thrown in prison.)

How much did Ozai and Iroh ever interact, though? Remember that Ozai was a change-of-life surprise; there's a twenty-one-year age gap between the two, and Iroh was in all likelihood long since off expanding the Empire by the time Ozai showed; the two might've been more like a distant uncle and nephew than brothers.

(I'd be interested to hear from anyone out there who has a similar age discrepancy in their own family, and how that might have affected the sibling dynamic.)

So. My thoughts.

I was probably the only one who watched the premier and found absolutely no surprise at the Mai/Zuko hookup. I have now realised that about 99% of the fandom all jaw-dropped when they saw the kiss(es), but I was like, "aw, so nice!"

Azula hinting at Maiko sex is also awesome, but when we see Zuko in his new hairstyle (HAIR PHYSICS FAIL), he REALLY looks like Ozai (once we see him). It's eerie.

Aang with hair has got to be the cutest thing ever, though I wish later they had given him curls in some sort of "I don't know how to style this!" hairstyle.

"Load the Toph" is one of my favourite lines, like, EVER.

Hakoda and Bato are seriously awesome in this ep, especially in their scheming ways. It's easy to imagine them being horrible troublemakers.

Also, poor Katara ;.;.
