Look, Glee, I'm real happy for you and I'm'a let you finish, but "The Cave of Two Lovers" had the greatest musical number of all time. OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!
"Cool story bro" time: the other day I ended up listening to a group of nuns preform Bing Crosby songs, and while I would have enjoyed them anyway, I enjoyed them EVEN MORE when they sang "Accentuate the Positive" because I mentally changed the line to "Don't let the cave in get you down Sokkaaaaaa." :D
Srsly, this episode. ♥ Normally I am ambivalent about Aang/Katara. Any future couple-y moments between the two of them and I was just like "WHATEVER GET BACK TO THE ASS KICKING NOW PLEASE," but the Aang/Katara in this was very sweet and actualfax romantic to me. I loved it. That and the hippies.
I identify with Sokka so much in this episode. As hilarious as it is to listen to the nomads' songs, in real life, traveling with people like that would leave me with exactly the same facepalm mark Sokka had.
"Badger-moles coming t'wards me...come on guys, help me out...!"
Love this episode. It's hilarious, sweet, and fun. The music of the two lovers (during the beautiful animation switch) Oma and Shu is probably one of my favourite tracks of the whole show. I also love how Oma still stays strong, even after her moment of rage.
Also, d'aaaaaaw, Aang and his foot-in-mouth disease.
I have to say, I am SHOCKED and APPALLED that this select group of people is talking all about the musical number, and the Kataang, and not about Zuko's emo!
Granted, this is ... not a great episode for him. He fails to catch an adequate fish. He fails to come between Uncle and potential tea. He meets a nice girl and finds a way to make her problems ALL ABOUT HIM. And then he steals her ostrich-horse.
I mean, come on, dude. Even by Zuko's standards, that's rough.
But seriously, I do love that just when it seems like he's about to open up and let his redemption story begin in earnest, he starts stealing from peasants instead. With that in mind, it's not surprising that he makes another wrong choice at the end of the season. But it doesn't really lessen the desire to punch him in the face a bit, too.
I also love Song. She's not an exciting character, but she's clever and kind. Also, her character design (and those of her house and mother, etc) is purely Korean, and I could look at pretty girls in hanboks all day.
(...not like that. I'm just fascinated by the way it all pieces together.)
(The pretty girl bit is just a bonus, really.)
Also, given a choice between tea and death, Uncle chooses tea. On the other hand, everyone chooses possible death over the certain death Azula would bring, and that, too, is right and proper.
AND THERE IS SOME KIND OF MUSICAL NUMBER IN THIS EPISODE. Here's a tip: if you spend your New Year's Eve getting drunk with lesbians and singing about secret tunnels, some of your non-AtLA watching friends are going to make snide remarks on Twitter. I actually find the nomads annoying when they're not singing, for much the same reasons as Sokka. Conclusion: they should sing all the time.
And Chong, for the record, is voiced by Bradley Dee Baker, who also does Appa, Momo and the other animals. I hope they paid him extra for this episode.
Aang/Katara: it's not a pairing I find interesting enough to write or read fic about, but I like them together and dislike when they're broken up in fic to enable other pairings. (So I, um, kill them instead. IT'S TOTALLY DIFFERENT!) I think I like them in this story particularly, though, because once they're separated from the others, it becomes clear how well they work together, and just how far Aang's foot can go into his mouth.

I have only one thing to say about this episode
