Poor Jet. Also, the "I am honored to accept his invitation" thing is really creepy, and we don't actually hear Jet given an order between that and when he attacks Aang.
While we finally get to see some of Jet's past, it's eerie to learn that the Rough Rhinos were the ones responsible - especially when Iroh spoke so affectionately of them, too. There's so much in this episode that's done very well, and that's what adds to the creepiness factor. They try to soften the blow of this episode with its sweet and cut beginning, but really, there is no warning. And yeah, while it's so wonderful that Appa is finally back with Aang, it still doesn't lesson the blow of Jet's death - really it doesn't. I'm not a big fan of Jet, but I still don't think he deserved to die like that. At least he wasn't alone.
As for Iroh and Zuko, I really like their scenes. Iroh doesn't bat an eye when he realises that the Blue Spirit is Zuko, and in fact turns it into something to be sarcastic about. This is the beginning of Zuko's turn-around-and-back-again, and the scene with him dropping the mask in the water is probably one of the prettiest and most symbolic in the series. It's also a good, melancholy ending to such a mixed episode.
For me the worst thing about Jet's death is that we never see Longshot and Smellerbee escape the Dai Li. I don't dislike Jet as much as I did previously, but I don't think he's worth losing two good characters for.
